PATTERNED APPEARANCES

The human body is a complex system of patterns with complex but orderly activity. This huge repeating pattern is the code for evolution, depending on the time and space that flow and are constantly changing. This limited cycle characterizes the existence of the universe and also our existence. The title of the exhibition “Patterned Appearances” metaphorically suggests the way Malvina Antal thinks about life and its stages. Site-specific installations are the opposite of the existence of human life to the point of death. The exhibition is part of the Inside Silence project at the Šopa Gallery.

Malvina Antal (* 1987, HU) is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest. The young author focuses mainly on the creation of minimalist objects and installations, examines the position of sculpture in art and its overlaps. She is a member of the Ziggurat Multi Art Group project. She works with various types of materials, such as transparent fabrics, dark blue velvet or tulle. With the help of light, then creates silhouettes or the impression of floating forms in space. In her works, she creates figural and abstract forms, the modelling of which means for her the perception of materials and the experience of how to use them. Malvina tries to understand life through basic forms, such as examining the movements of dancers, as well as the shapes of their fingerprints, the DNA spiral, or another form in nature.

Exhibitions of this gallery are supported by Tatra Bank Foundation (Nadácia Tatra Banky) and Slovak Arts Council.

Slovak Arts Council is the main partner of the project.
