YOU WILL NOT SEE THE STARS WITHOUT DARKNESS

Jakub Navrátil (1987) focuses mainly on painting, object and installation. A common element in the cycle “You Won’t See Stars Without the Darkness” is the authors’ interest in mystery, intimacy, unspoken and unattainable. Using a deliberately non-linear scenario, he tries to put the meaning into constant movement and the impossibility of a final statement. The individual works are not created in a pre-arranged plan and their nature is rather documentary: “The random exclusion of an image from its original context gives me the opportunity to manipulate its multi-meaningful structure of content. Recently, I am mainly interested in image information in the cyberspace of the Internet, its dissemination, copy, appropriation, sharing, etc., as well as the form of individual and collective memory. Blurring, unfinished sentences, image aura, questions of identity, archetype and mythology. I perceive my work as a kind of strange, poetic manipulation of the image, where instead of narratively closed content I try to offer the viewer a more open space for a more subjective process of reading and interpretation. “
