Ivana Čavić

DAY (1) 48

Ivana Čavić belongs to the forthcoming generation of Serbian visual artist. The exhibiting project Day (1) 48 is a visual essay in which the author connects through photography and installation the document with fiction and she is exploring the border between the private and public. Thanks to the cooperation with the local artist she has visited several studios during her two-month residency and had an opportunity to look into their private life, inquire about different attitudes of thinking and artistic methods. The result is photographs which are not portraying the artist and documenting his works, but they record the process of the work in making, instruments and materials, things by which the artist is surrounded and what in the end creates the unique character of the precise place. Ivana Čavić is thinking about the relationship between the artist and the studio and the resulting (re)presentation of the work in the space, in which we are finding ourselves. She is blurring on purpose the border between these two worlds – between the private and public, between the studio and the exhibiting space of the gallery.

Ivana Čavić is currently studying photography at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. Her work is based on research, while she often plays with photographic and text narratives, which are triggering the discussion about different types of reading the personal history and memories. Ivana has in the past participated in many individual and group exhibitions and international projects.

The residency is organized in cooperation with the programme Plants AiR of the organization Novi Sad 2021. The residency programme is supported using public funding by Slovak Arts Council. The residency stay is then supported by the city Košice and Creative Industry Košice.

Slovak Arts Council is the main partner of the project.
