Boris Sirka

INK PLACES

Boris Sirka (*1981) is one of the best recognizable authors in Slovak young painting. A characteristic feature of his work is the chosen genre, the possibilities of which he constantly discovers and moves to new levels. He repeatedly processes “dark” themes inspired by literary or film models, or (urban) legends of different cultures. Like other painters, he works in limited, closed cycles. Changes in Sirka’s work always mean a strict transition from one phase to another, a sudden change in expression, new ideas and a thematic area. Sirka’s latest works were created during his three-month artistic residency in Tokyo. It is a series of Sumi-e paintings (traditional Japanese ink painting technique) influenced by Tokyo and the Japanese landscape.

The exhibition is supported by MK SR and Tatra Bank Foundation.

The residency was organized as a part of a collaboration between K.A.I.R. Košice Artist in Residence and Youkobo Art Space in Tokyo.
