The current exhibition at the Šopa Gallery presents an installation by artist from Bratislava – Kristián Németh. The installed works are based on an exhibition project realized in 2016 in the Bratislava HotDock Gallery. In his work, Kristián Németh has long devoted himself to an institutional critique of the church community with an engaged and controversial approach. The author’s critical reflection and social definition of the institutional framework are conditioned by negative life experiences. The engaged approach is Németh’s personal choice, which in artistic practice makes it possible to reveal distorted or misguided principles, moral distortions which, on the one hand, discriminate the otherness of sexual or gender preferences, on the other hand fully accept sin in their own ranks, but without more profound self-reflection. The reduced form approaching a minimalist installation, abstracting and generalizing the content capital of a sensitively perceived issue in a free (democratic) environment and at the same time without the ambition to dishonour, calls on the other party to open a friendly discussion.
Kristián Németh (1983) attended during the years 2008 – 2014 the studio IN at the Academy of Fine Arts under the guidance of prof. Ilona Németh. Since 2016, he has been working as a doctoral student at the Department of Sculpture, Object and Installation under the guidance of Martin Piaček.
