Common Reservoir brings together two artistic positions that consider water, landscape, and the body as mutually interconnected systems. Here, the reservoir is not a static container but a temporary configuration of flows — a place where water accumulates, transforms, and is released again. It runs through both landscape and body, escaping every attempt to hold it in an unchanging form. Photography, the shared medium of both artists, does not function here as a neutral record of reality, but as a space of its construction and transformation.
Each artist activates the landscape differently. Tatiana Takáčová examines it as a culturally and pictorially constructed space, shaped by the histories of exploration, tourism, and the desire for authentic experience. Through cutting, layering, and combining documentary, staged, and generated images, she traces how the landscape becomes an appealing image for consumption, while the consequences of its commercial exploitation remain out of frame. Lucia Sceranková renders the landscape as a permeable environment, in which water connects the human body with the surrounding world. She joins fragments of the body with the sea sponge — an aquatic animal that takes in water, filters it, and releases it again. In her images, water circulates between inside and outside, and the landscape appears not as something that stands apart from us, but as an environment that passes through our bodies and helps shape them. The works of both artists thus do not create an opposition between body and landscape, but two ways of entering the same mutable system. They meet in the tension between the desire to preserve the world and the awareness that our presence continually alters and depletes it.
Lucia Sceranková studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. She completed an exchange at the School of Arts and Cultures in Newcastle and a residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. She has been nominated for several significant awards for young artists: alongside the Start Point Prize 2011, she was also nominated for the prestigious Jindřich Chalupecký Award in 2014 and the Václav Chad Award at the Zlín Youth Salon in 2015. Since graduating, she has developed projects for numerous solo and group exhibitions. In the Czech and Slovak context, these have included the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava, the National Gallery in Prague, the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové, 8smička in Humpolec, the PAF festival in Olomouc, and solo exhibitions at the Zahorian & Van Espen, Mladá galéria, and Fait Preview galleries in Brno. Internationally, she has exhibited at the NARRACJE #12 contemporary art festival in Gdańsk, at viennacontemporary in Vienna, at the XIII Bienal de la Habana in Cuba, at Forum Box gallery in Helsinki, and in a solo exhibition with her sister Pavla at the Pump House Gallery in London.
Tatiana Takáčová is a visual artist who, through the medium of photography — in the form of documentary, diaristic records, staged photography, and installation — engages with psychological and sociological themes, contemporary phenomena, and temporality within the photographic image. She works at the intersection of conceptual and documentary photography. She completed her master’s and doctoral studies in photography at the Department of Photography and New Media at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Between 2022 and 2024, she was also active as a curator at the KAIR Košice Artists in Residence centre. She has taken part in many exhibitions in Slovakia and abroad.
