Scent Is Present is an olfactory beginners’ workshop where we will explore various perspectives of odors, their sources, controversies, and in the end, fabricate our own scent with the participants.
As far as we know, there is no smellable evidence of historical aromas, no scent fossils, just descriptions. However, we would like to attempt to collectively fabricate a fragrant relic for the future. Through the process of distillation, we will extract scent and bottle it for participants to take with them and hopefully keep for a long time.
We will discuss different ways of extracting scents and smell some of our samples.
We will consider the problem of under-developed vocabulary regarding scent, share our insights, make associations and retrieve memories.
Please feel free to bring your own scented materials, objects that bear smells, or anything scent-related that you would like to share, whether pleasant or unpleasant. We can possibly distill them, smell them and discuss.
The workshop will be held in English, but with the option of interpretation into Slovak.
The workshop is FREE OF CHARGE.
Registration for the workshop is required: https://forms.gle/JFR5XuK427MWwGvi9
Capacity is limited to 10 people.

𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼- ( Kamila Valešová & Michaela Cagáňová) is a collective, a holo-biont. Based on their fascination with how nature operates, they translate the post-anthropocentric values into, by them fabricated, hypothetical landscapes. They shift from the physical to the digital realm by means of 3D scanning. Taking a fragment from their environment and building a new narrative around it. (-a para-fiction).
With similar logistics, they like to experiment with different media by mimicking the organic processes.
By observing the intersection of the human-made and the “so-called” natural, (which they think are inseparable) they play around and speculate about fictive, future landscapes where the audience can contemplate our relationship with nature and consider humans as an inseparable part of it.

𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗸𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗼𝘂 is a visual artist based in Athens, engaging in art and research. Her practice mainly develops around questions related to narrative, dissemination, iterability, the undecidable, and the enchanting. Her work, usually in the form of installations, performances, texts, and odors, wavers between the fictional and the factual. Employing time-dependent processes she attempts to explore, among others, shared experience, agency, indeterminacy, and the digressive. She is currently a PhD. candidate at the Athens School of Fine Arts on an IKY scholarship.
